A missing wind spirit

Dominick slumped against the couch in Tamur's seedy apartment watching the television screen flicker. Linao had fallen asleep on his shoulder. He was trying to conceal his worry and and pretend that he was as engrossed in the movie as Tamur was.

This is crazy. I don't know what Linao's mixed up in, but I'll be damned if I let any of those... things... get her. He shuddered slightly at the memory of the dark being chasing him.

His thoughts temporarily turned to other subjects.

God, I wish I could call home. Manuel must be furious with me. And Trini... He felt oddly homesick. No, he though with sudden decisiveness. I will not get them mixed up in this.

Damnit, where's Mag? She should have contacted me by now... Something must be keeping her. But what could keep her? She's a freaking wind spirit. It would take...

Realization began to dawn on him, but before he could complete the thought, Tamur's voice broke in on him.

"Hel-lo..."

He glanced up. "Huh?" Tamur simultaneously blew out a cloud of cigarette smoke and gave him an appraising look, eyebrow raised. "Dude, you're a million miles away. I think you need to get some sleep."

Dominick glanced at the clock and bounded up from the sofa, allowing Linao's head to drop onto the arm rest.

"I-I have to go."

"Go?" Tamur's voice was incredulous. "It's four-thirty in the morning! You might as well get a good night's sleep before Manuel kills you tomorrow."

"No, that's okay... I just have to... check on something. Do you mind if Lin crashes here tonight?"

"For what's left of it, sure. Are you sure you're all right?" Tamur didn't like the avoidant tone in Dom's voice.

"No... Just -" He decided the best answer was no answer. "I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks, Tamur."

"Um, okay then... see you tomorrow -" His goodbye was lost in the slamming of the door. Tamur grabbed the remote and started flipping channels.

"... Weirdo."
