Manuel fell lifeless against the floor. Trini's eyes widened, the stranger looming above him impassively. The force that had been surrounding her flickered, dumbfounded, then died out completely, leaving one small girl to the mercy of this stranger.

Stepping calmly over the cooling corpse, the silhouette stepped once, already within arm's reach. He scooped her up with one gloved hand, stepping callously once more over the lifeless form. She screamed and reached out for her brother, her kicks butterfly wings on the banded steel of his arms. Tossing the murder weapon almost contemptuously on the floor beside Manuel's body, he pulled another gun out of his coat. Abandoning the first one, he walked out with the little girl, leaving the apartment silent and still.
